Quick Tips to Stay Warm While Skiing at Loveland Ski Area
Brace Yourself for the Arctic Blast: Tips for Staying Warm at Loveland This MLK Weekend
An Arctic blast is set to sweep through the Rockies this weekend, bringing low temperatures and up to a half foot of fresh snow to Loveland Ski Area. The frosty forecast promises incredible conditions for skiers and snowboarders, but staying warm and prepared is key to enjoying the powder. Whether you’re gearing up for fresh turns or seeking cozy spots to recharge, we’ve got the tips to keep you comfortable all weekend long.
- Layer Up Smartly: Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add an insulating mid-layer (like fleece or down), and finish with a waterproof outer layer to block wind and snow.
Forgot something? Loveland’s Sport Shop has you covered with base layers, buffs, wool socks, hand warmers, and more. - Take Advantage of Warming Huts: Loveland has four warming huts equipped with wood stoves, spread out across the mountain. They’re the perfect place to recharge and stay cozy between runs. Plus, each hut offers propane grills for grilling and chilling between turns.
- Fuel Your Body: Staying warm starts with staying fueled! Grab high-energy snacks and hydrate often. For something heartier, warm up with a bowl of soup at Ptarmigan Roost Cabin, fresh-baked goods in the Basin Lodge, or visit the new Cantina next to the Rathskeller for a selection of tacos and burrito bowls.
- Keep Moving: Keep your blood circulating by wiggling your toes and fingers on the lift or hit the moguls to stay warm off the lift.
- Protect Extremities: Wear insulated gloves or mittens, a warm hat or helmet liner, and wool socks. Hand and toe warmers are also a great way to fight off the chill. We know you want a photo of the Continental Divide but try to keep your hands covered.
- Avoid Tight Gear: Tight boots or gloves can restrict circulation and make you colder. For comfort, warmth, and control on the mountain, visit Loveland’s Rental Shop—our experts will help you get the perfect boot fit for an enjoyable day on the slopes.
- Stay Dry: Wet clothes make you cold fast! Choose waterproof gear and switch out damp layers if needed. Loveland offers convenient on-site lockers where you can store extra gear to keep yourself prepared for any weather.
Stay warm and enjoy your day at Loveland Ski Area!
