Snowmaking 2015/2016

Sunday, November 29

Tonight will be the last night of snowmaking for the 2015/16 season! Our snowmakers have once again done a tremendous job. The early season conditions have been amazing and much of the credit goes to them and the Trail Maintenance crew. Mother Nature also chipped in a bunch of early season snow which always helps! The crews will wrap up on the Flushes and the Rainbow Magic Carpet tonight and then pull all the equipment off the hill. The Park Crew will begin building the terrain park on Straight Flush and Royal Flush once the equipment has been removed. The Rainbow Magic Carpet is already open, but we will open the terrain lookers right of the carpet when snowmaking concludes. Uphill Access will be allowed starting on Tuesday, December 1. We do have some snow in the forecast for tonight, tomorrow and tomorrow night. Let’s hope this storm comes through with the 7-14 Opensnow is calling for!

Friday, November 27

The Thanksgiving storm didn’t materialize as we had hoped, but the early season conditions are still very good. The snowmakers continue to work hard and Firecut will open today along with the Rainbow Magic Carpet at Loveland Valley. Snowmaking continues on the Flushes and at Loveland Valley off Lift 3 and the west side of the Rainbow Magic Carpet. Snowmaking will be completed within the next week. Think snow!!

Saturday, November 21

The storm hammered us with 25″ of new snow in the past 3 days and the conditions are amazing. The new Ptarmigan Lift opened today with access to Fire Bowl and North Turtle Creek. We also added Waterfall, Nix Nox, Keno and Blackjack to the list of open terrain. Cat’s Meow is currently open on a temporary basis and Ski Patrol is out there working hard to open additional terrain off the Ptarmigan Lift and Lifts 1 and 6. Snowmaking continues on Firecut off the Ptarmigan Lift, image below, and the Flushes off Lift 6 in addition to Loveland Valley. Stay tuned for more terrain updates!

Thursday, November 19

We have received 20″ of new snow in the past three days and there is still more in the forecast! The new Ptarmigan Lift will open on Saturday, November 21. Ski Patrol opened Cat’s Meow for a few hours this afternoon – see image below. Nix Nox, Tempest and the Blackjacks have also been opened on a temporary basis. The mountain is skiing great and we hope to have more terrain announcements soon. Snowmaking will continue on Drifter and Firecut and we plan to be done making snow at the end of the month.

Wednesday, November 18

Loveland Valley will open for the season on Friday, November 20.  Lift 7 will be open to the public.  Ski & Ride School will also start operations at the Valley.  To book your Ski & Ride School lesson, call (303) 571-5580. Lift 3 will open in Mid December.

Monday, November 16

We received  a light dusting last night and there is a lot of snow in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Looks like tomorrow will be a powder day! That should help us get some more terrain open. Temps have been cold for the snowmakers who are making great progress on the Ptarmigan Lift. Fire Bowl has been track packed twice and we hope to have an announcement on that very soon. Snowmaking also continues on Lift 6 and at Loveland Valley. Stay tuned for more updates!

Thursday, November 12

Lift 6 will open tomorrow with access to Roulette. Lift 2 will open on on Saturday with access to Tango Road and Turtle Creek for the beginners. Snowmaking will continue on Lift 6, the Ptarmigan Lift and at Loveland Valley. More snow is in the forecast for early next week and the temperatures look great for snowmaking!

Wednesday, November 11

Another big storm came through last night and continued through the day. Over a foot so far and it is still falling! Ski Patrol was able to open Nix Nox and Upper Richards for a brief time today. The snowmakers have made tremendous progress on Lift 6 and Loveland Valley. With the snowmaking progress and all the natural snow, we expect to have more terrain open for the weekend. Thursday, November 5

Mother Nature came through again with 9″ of new snow in the last 24 hours. The new snow combined with the hard work of our snowmakers allowed Ski Patrol to open Lower Richard’s this morning. We now have two full top-to-bottom runs open at Loveland Basin!

Snowmaking continues on Roulette and Lower Tempest off Lift 6 and also at Loveland Valley. The temperatures will stay low and there is also more snow in the forecast for today and tomorrow which is all good news!

We will continue to work hard to open more terrain as soon as we can.

Tuesday, November 3

Looks like Loveland might get hit with some snow the next couple days.  Open Snow is calling for 5″ – 12″ into Thursday AM.  Our snowmakers are still making snow on Lower Richards and we’re hoping to get that open ASAP.  Check back for updates.

Saturday, October 31

Our Trail Maintenance crew busted out a ton of work and got Spillway open.  The snowmakers are making snow on Lower Richards and hope to have that open very soon.

Thursday, October 29

Today Loveland Ski Area opened for the 15/16 season at 9:00am.  Our snowmakers will focus their attention to Spillway and we hope to have that open in the very near future.  After Spillway, they will start making snow on Lower Richards.  Keep checking back for updates.

Wednesday, October 28

We are about 24 hours out from Opening Day 2015-2016.  Ski Patrol, Lift Maintenance, Snowmaking Crew and Trail Maintenance are all busy on the mountain getting the mountain ready for you.  We got more snow last night and the conditions for Opening Day are going to be one of the best in recent years.  First chair is 9:00am.  See you tomorrow!

Our snowmakers and trail maintenance crew are busy putting the final touches on the mountain in preparation for Opening Day 2015. Monday, October 26

Opening Day 2015 is Thursday, October 29.  We got 17.5″ of snow last week and our snowmakers have been working around the clock making snow.  They have now started to move the snow guns on to Spillway and hope to make snow there very soon .  Big thanks to our snowmakers for all the hard work.  Here’s to a great season!  For all the Opening Day info, CLICK HERE

Friday, October 23

7″ of new snow fell last night on Loveland giving us 14″ in 24 hours.  The snowcats are up packing down the upper part of the mountain.  Conditions are looking great on Catwalk and Mambo.  We still have a good amount of snow to make on Homerun.  Our snowmakers are working around the clock right now making snow.  The forecast is looking good for some more productive nights of snowmaking.  Have a great weekend!

Thursday, October 22

The snow guns are still going and it’s 11:15am.  Our snowmakers got a early start and started making snow at 5:30pm yesterday.  The top of Lift 1 was above knee high in depth.  They’ve made great progress all the way down Catwalk, Mambo and halfway down Homerun.  Mother Nature has helped and it’s been snowing all night and all day.  Big thanks to our Snowmaking Crew for all the hard work and the 24 hour shifts.  Think snow!

Wednesday, October 21

Our snowmakers turned the guns on in the early morning hours and continue to make snow at 9:45am. 2″ of snow fell last night and more is on the way for the next few days. Loveland hopes to open by Late October/Early November.

Tuesday, October 20

It’s looking a little better with the weather.  Temperatures are starting to drop at night.  We did get a dusting of snow last night but temps stayed around 32 degrees with high humidity making the wet-bulb temp too high to make snow at the Basin.

Monday, October 19

Temperatures were too warm to make snow this weekend.  Looks like we could have a few nights this week that we might be able to make snow.  We’ll keep you posted.

Friday, October 16

Last night at 11:00pm our snowmakers turned on the snow guns and started making snow for the 2015-2016 season.  The guns ran until 7:15am.  We’re hoping Mother Nature cooperates and we can continue making snow at night.  We’ll keep you updated with all the progress.  Keep checking back for updates.

We’re still playing the waiting game.  It’s been a warm week of weather and overnight temperatures have not gotten low enough to make snow. Our snowmakers are itching to make snow once we get the proper temperatures.  We appreciate your patience during this late Indian summer.  Keep checking back for updates.

Monday, October 12

This weekend was a warm one at Loveland Ski Area.  Sadly our snowmaking crew couldn’t make snow.  The good news is temperatures and humidity are going to be dropping the next few days so were optimistic that we might be able to make snow soon.  Keep checking back for updates.

Friday, October 9

The weather is way too nice here at Loveland Ski Area. Looks like that nice weather is going to continue into the weekend. This is not good news for our snowmakers. We’re hoping Mother Nature will bring us cooler temps next week and we can turn on the snow guns and make some snow. Have a great weekend.

Wednesday, October 7

Last night Mother Nature dropped another dusting of snow on Loveland Ski Area. Unfortunately the humidity was too high and our snowmakers could not make snow. High humidity is not good when the temperature is right around freezing. Wet bulb temperature is lowest temperature that can be reached by evaporating water into the air Note: the wet bulb temperature will always be less than or equal to the temperature. Tuesday, October 6

We’ve got a good amount of rain yesterday afternoon and a nice dusting of snow up high last night. Temperatures are still too warm to be productive making snow. Our snowmakers are keeping a close eye on the weather for the next few days and will make snow if conditions permit.

Sunday, October 4

Last night looked like it might be the night, but it just didn’t get cold enough. The good news is we are seeing colder temperatures and should be able to get started soon. Looks like Wednesday night is the next best chance. We are anxious to get started and are still on track for a mid/late October opening.

Saturday, October 3

The snowmaking crew was onsite all night, but were unable to get started. The temperatures dropped as expected, but there was a lot of moisture in the air which made for unfavorable conditions. While it is disappointing that we weren’t able to get started, the moisture did turn into snow and we received a small dusting last night. Check out the time lapse on our webcams for images. The crew will be back again tonight. Stay tuned for more updates.

Thursday, October 1

Our snowmaking crew just arrived from New Zealand and their ready to make snow for the 2015-2016 season.  A cold front is moving this way and we’re hoping to start snowmaking operations sometime this weekend.  We’re on standby and we’ll keep you updated through the whole snowmaking process.  Get ready!

It’s still pretty warm here at Loveland Ski Area.  The forecast is calling for temps to drop come Saturday night.  We’re keeping our fingers crossed Mother Nature cooperates and we get to turn on the snow guns later this week.  Keep checking back for updates.

You can feel a bit of a chill in the air today up at the ski area! The forecast is calling for beautiful fall weather for most of the week, but it looks like the temperatures will start drop on Friday and Saturday. Still too early to tell when we will be able to start making snow, but that is an encouraging sign!
