Loveland welcomes all guests, including those who are differently abled or who may need extra assistance, to participate in and enjoy all the recreational activities available here at Loveland. Below is information to aid in this process. If you have any additional questions or need assistance, please reach out the Loveland Reception desk at 303-571-5580 x100.
Getting There:
- Location: Loveland Ski Area is located off I-70 at Exit 216.
Area Overview:
- Loveland Valley: Beginner and racer area.
- Loveland Basin: The main mountain for skiing, snowboarding, and using other approved adaptive equipment.
Basin Area/Parking:
- Basin Lot (parking lot A):
- There are abundant ADA parking spaces close to the snow surface. Direct access to the snow from this ADA parking area is about 50-75 feet away but slope of the snow in this area could pose challenges for some. ADA parking directly adjacent to the Basin Lodge may be more accommodating (see below).
- The lot is paved with packed recycled asphalt and road base material but due to the high alpine environment can be uneven and slippery when impacted by ice and snow. Loveland prioritizes snow removal in the ADA parking areas.
- There is no direct ADA access to the Basin Lodge from the Basin lot.
- Main Basin Lodge ADA Parking:
- Upon entering the Basin parking lot from the main entrance, immediately turn right and follow the road uphill to the left (westward) to find additional ADA parking adjacent to the east side of the Basin patio and main lodge.
- These spots offer flat access to the Basin’s heated brick patio, lodge, and the nearby flatter snow surface.
Basin Lodge Accessibility:
- Elevator Access:
- There is an elevator located on the west side of the patio under the steps (look for the sign that says Administration Offices/Elevator).
- The elevator provides access to all parts of the Basin lodge, including restaurants, bars, and restrooms.
- Basin Rental Shop and Sport Shop Access:
- The Basin Rental Shop is accessible from the patio, with ramp access from the east door.
- There is also access to the Rental Shop from the south side.
- The Sport Shop has two floors and is accessible via a ramp on the west side leading to the upper level; an elevator inside connects to the lower level.
- Ticket Office:
- The ticket office is outside the lower level of the Sport Shop, but tickets are also available at the Ski and Ride School kiosk on the upper level of the Basin lodge, and in the Sport Shop.
Valley Area Accessibility:
- ADA Parking:
- ADA parking is available directly adjacent to the west side of the Valley lodge in parking lot B, with flat paved access to the Valley Sport Shop and the lodge entrance. The patio and all Valley walkways are heated to minimize ice and snow except under extreme conditions.
- Elevator Access:
- The Valley elevator is on the east side of the Valley lodge and takes you from the upper level (restaurant and bar) to the lower level (Rental Shop, Ski and Ride School, Ski Patrol, and snow surface access).
- Restrooms:
- Accessible restrooms are available on both levels of the Valley lodge.
- There is a private family restroom on the upper level that is also fully ADA-compliant.
Lift Access:
- All Loveland chairlifts are located on relatively flat snow surfaces.
- At the Valley, the main chair, lift 7, is located approximately 40 feet from the patio edge. Lift 7 and lift 3, which serve the Valley, are fixed grip chairs that can be easily slowed down if a request is made to the operator. “Magic Carpet” conveyor belt lifts also serve beginner terrain at the Valley.
- At the Basin, Loveland has one high speed detachable quad chair. That is Chet’s dream. Chet’s is located close (approx. 100 feet) to parking lot A but is uphill from the lot. Chet’s is also about 100 feet from the Basin patio edge. A gentle slope from the patio edge can take you to Chet’s. All the remaining lifts at the Basin are fixed grip chairs. Any chair at the Basin can be slowed upon request.
- Sit-ski adaptive skiers are welcome on all chairlifts at Loveland.
Ski and Ride School
- Loveland’s Ski and Ride School does have instructors trained to support many conditions, including impaired eyesight, speech, hearing, autism, emotional and specific learning disabilities. For additional details, the Ski and Ride School can be reached on Loveland’s website or via phone at 303-571-5580 ext. 170.
- Loveland’s Ski and Ride School, located at the Valley, does not provide equipment nor lessons for sit-ski adaptive skiers. Recommendations for other local ski areas that provide such services can be provided.
Cafeterias and Bars
- Loveland’s cafeterias and bars, located in the Basin and Valley lodges, are all ADA accessible. Cafeterias and bars have both “Hi-top” tables and regular tables, all with four legged chairs which can be moved out of the way to provide easy wheelchair access. Only “Hi-Top” stools exist at the bar itself, although there are plenty of regular tables immediately nearby.
Service Animals
- A “service animal” is defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act as any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Service animals that fall under this definition are welcome inside all Loveland facilities. Service animals are not allowed on Loveland chairlifts, conveyor lifts nor on the ski slopes. The only exception to this would be if the guest is participating in uphill access when the lifts are not operating. It should be noted that generally “therapy dogs” or “emotional support animals” are not considered service animals.
