Live Music: Earl Nelson and The Company

2:30 pm 5:30 pm
March 4, 2023

Colorado based country-blues musician, Earl Nelson, is reinvigorating the field of modern americana music. Influenced by everything from early century delta blues & bluegrass to early 1970's country funk. Writing about the average American life, the music and lyrics behave without genre boundaries.

Born and raised in Eastern Kansas, Earl picked up the guitar through an obsession with the likes of Skip James, Son House, & Charley Patton. After years of playing desert blues in Austin, TX, Earl has found a home in Colorado with a group of great musicians that move freely through genres to make for a unique lively rolling sound. Earl Nelson & the Company have emerged to create a funky blend of Mississippi delta blues, Mo-town soul, and bluegrass country. The band infuses blues banjo, jazz keys, funky basslines, and heavy percussion to back Earl's gritty vocals and slide guitar. With a large helping of gospel blues riffs and New Orleans piano solos, their live sound turns any stage into old-fashioned juke joint.

Kenny was born in Bellevue, WA, but was raised in Midland and Sanford, MI. He began singing in choirs at a very young age up through high school. During this time, Kenny was the lead singer in a garage band group called "Rook" which focused on alternative rock.

It wasn't until going to college at Central Michigan University where he picked up the guitar as a freshman. He began winning talent shows and playing in local coffee shops and bars throughout the next few years, and at the age of 22 was when he released his first album "All Sides of the Spectrum".

Not long after the release, Kenny moved to Denver, CO. His solo career really took a leap forward where made his mark by opening up for Common at CSU and Brad Corrigan from Dispatch at DU. He also released and EP in 2007 called "No Time to Waste" as well as three live albums. He has also been the front man for projects like "Left Hand Cheater", "My Friend Tom", "Pearls for Breakfast", and "Kenny Lee & the Young Souls" while maintaining his solo career.

Live Music: Coal Creek String Band

2:00 pm 5:00 pm
March 17, 2023

Coal Creek String Band is a collective of musicians from different bluegrass and old time bands in the Front Range. You’re almost guaranteed to see them with a different roster at every show. This massive pool of talents draws from every genre across the Americana spectrum. You may witness traditional, hard-driving bluegrass or a romping Old Time performance with multiple fiddlers. The next show may feature elements of jam band improvising or a healthy dose of Irish jigs. Either way, you’re sure to experience music imbibed with the rich traditions of Appalachia.

The group is organized by multi-instrumentalist Brett Kretzer. Brett grew up in the rolling Appalachian hills of the mid-atlantic and was steeped in the local tradition from an early age. As an adult, he has spent countless hours around campfires sipping moonshine and sharing tunes with Appalachian old timers. As these authentic mountain experiences morphed into a professional career, he found himself touring up and down the entire Appalachian corridor, from Georgia to Maine, with progressive bluegrass band The Plate Scrapers. Over the years he has had the privilege of sharing the stage with bluegrass legends such as The Seldom Scene, Larry Keel, Frank Solivan, and more. Live Music: Kevin Daniel

2:30 pm 5:30 pm
March 25, 2023

Raised in North Carolina, Brooklyn-based Americana crooner Kevin Daniel is set on making NYC a destination for Nashville sounds. The songwriter and multi-instrumentalist brings southern rock, gospel, and blues to barrooms of Brooklyn and beyond. But Daniel wasn’t always chasing his dreams.

In the winter of 2013, during a dinner party in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Kevin received a phone call from his sister that would change everything. His mother and stepfather, adventure-seekers and amateur pilots, had been flying back from their mountain house in western North Carolina when their plane had crashed, killing both of them. Daniel’s life was turned upside down, his family torn apart and the world forever changed. During his return to North Carolina to help with family business, and while reliving his parent’s lives through photos, essays, and family stories, Kevin wrote over a dozen songs, all fueled by the grief of losing his parents as well as the celebration of the large lives they were known for. From those songs six were chosen to record, including one written specifically for Kevin’s parent’s memorial service.

Half Pelican (Andy Reiner and Dr. Joy Adams) plays Pre-Historic Americana: cosmic acoustic grooves influenced by Appalachian, Bluegrass, Celtic, Scandinavian and Pre-Historic music. They love to play fiddle tunes, songs and Bach on top of Colorado 14ers. Dance and wiggle to their original and traditional songs and tunes performed on cello, fiddle, octave mandolin, and clawhammer banjo with sweet vocal harmonies!

Live Music: Coral Creek

2:30 pm 5:30 pm
May 6, 2023

CORAL CREEK is a nationally acclaimed Colo-Caribbean Newgrazz band featuring the original music of Chris Thompson and Bill McKay (formerly of Leftover Salmon and Derek Trucks Band). Inspired by the islands and the mountains, Coral Creek conjures a unique vibe, delivering big sounds and high-energy shows that appeal to audiences across the newgrass, rock and jamband spectrum. Drawing influence from legends like John Coltrane, Jerry Garcia, Tony Rice, Professor Longhair and Dr. John; don’t be surprised when Coral Creek launches into a second line jam with tenor saxophone soaring over organ swells and a rolling banjo. Listen close and you might even hear some steel pan and coqie frogs.

Coral Creek launched into the heart of the Colorado music scene with the release of The Road Ahead (2010), produced by Bill Nershi of the String Cheese Incident. The addition of Bill McKay on keyboards and Nathan Peoples on saxophone solidified the unmistakable sound that is Coral Creek today, as captured on the eponymous album Coral Creek (2015) and Free Dog (2018) – both produced by Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth. Free Dog has all the lyrical imagery, tasteful harmonies and outstanding musicianship that you’ve come to expect from Colorado’s hottest up-and-coming band, once again transporting listeners from the heights of the Rockies to the sweet sands of the Caribbean Sea – hitting every honkytonk, bayou and beach bar along the way.

Since forming in 2015, Coral Creek has played campgrounds, beach bars, concert halls and festival stages across the US, Europe, UK and the Caribbean, sharing stages with music heroes like Peter Rowan, Sam Bush, Bill Nershi, Tim Carbone, Andy Goessling, Vince Herman, Andy Hall, Roosevelt Collier, Jeff Austin and other heavy hitters in the newgrass / jamband scene. Find them online at www.CoralCreek.net  and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/coral.creek.band/.

Live Music: Uptown Toodeloo

2:30 pm 5:30 pm
May 7, 2023

The Uptown Toodeloo String Band is a mostly acoustic project performing the music of the Grateful Dead infused with high-energy bluegrass jams and powerful vocals.

The Uptown Toodeloo String Band is a fresh new project on the Colorado front-range, comprised of established Colorado players bringing a big sound and loyal audiences. Uptown Toodeloo features pickers from notable Colorado bands including Leftover Salmon, Shakedown Street, Coral Creek, DeadPhish Orchestra and The Holler! All players are steeped in the tradition and music of the Grateful Dead.

This is not a bluegrass band playing Grateful Dead songs. And this is not “just-another-Grateful Dead tribute band” playing bluegrass instruments. The Uptown Toodeloo String Band combines the best of foot-stomping bluegrass music with the psychedelic style, arrangements and melodies of the good ole Grateful Dead. We're not playing Reckoning here folks, we go deep in the jams where acoustic instruments ought not go.
